Night Music publishes two issues a year, one in May and one in November. Reviews are published year round. Submissions are accepted year round. Response time depends on submission volume but is usually pretty quick.
For each issue, one writer will be chosen as the featured writer. An interview with this writer (conducted via email) and a photo will be posted on the Night Music homepage. If you do not wish to be considered as a featured writer, please note this in your submission.
Submissions may be sent to nightmusicjournal[at]gmail[dot]com.
Please note in the subject field what you are submitting (poetry, nonfiction, mixed genre, or review).
I hate writing cover letters, and you probably do too. So please, introduce yourself and your work in whatever way is most comfortable to you in the body of your email. You can address your submission to Janice Worthen or you can choose something funny or silly like Screech Owl. I like funny and silly. Please include a brief bio in your email unless you don’t want a bio included.
For poetry, please send no more than 5 poems. For nonfiction, mixed genre, and reviews, please send no more than 30 pages (if your piece is longer, send a sample and make a case for a longer submission).
Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please include a notice in your submission and notify me immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere.
All rights revert to the writer after publication, but please mention that your piece was published in Night Music in future publications.
Unfortunately, I can’t pay contributors at this time. However, issues are free, and there’s no reading fee.
