Night Music Journal publishes two issues a year. Reviews are published year round.
For each issue, one writer will be chosen as the featured writer. An interview with this writer (conducted via email) and a photo will be posted on the Night Music Journal homepage. If you do not wish to be considered as a featured writer, please note this in your submission.
Please note in the subject field what you are submitting (poetry, nonfiction, mixed/hybrid genre, or review).
Please use the body of your email for your cover letter and introduce yourself and your work in whatever way is most comfortable to you. You can address your submission to J Worthen or something more creative such as Screech Owl. I like creative. Please include a brief bio in your email.
For poetry, please send no more than 5 poems. For nonfiction, mixed/hybrid genre, and reviews, please send no more than 30 pages (if your piece is longer, send a sample and make a case for a longer submission).
Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please mention this in your submission and notify NMJ immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere.
If you’ve been published in an NMJ issue, please don’t submit again unless asked.
All rights revert to the writer after publication, but please mention that your piece was published in Night Music Journal in future publications.
Unfortunately, NMJ can’t pay contributors at this time. However, issues are free, and there’s no reading fee.
